These two are such a "LOVELY" couple! Ok literally because their last name is Lovely. Rachel and I have been friends for a long time. We’ve been each others confidants, well she’s at least mine, and she’s the type of friend that will pick up the phone at 4am when you’re in need. And when the time came for them to tie the knot this year, I was honored that they chose me to photograph their wedding.
They chose Hale Koa as their venue. Hale Koa is a 72-acre recreation facility for the armed forces situated on the finest stretch of beach in Waikiki. It was also a 14 hour flight away from their home in NoVA. Luckily, Rachel’s parents who live in HI helped plan the wedding.
It rained a bit in the morning which worried me because it was a garden wedding. But it cleared fast and the sun and the blue skies came out. We started shooting at 8am. This would normally be a problem for me because I’m not a morning person. And since we have a 6 hour time difference, thanks to jet-lag, it was no problem at all. And instead of having a maid-of-honor and best-man, they had their "best-persons". Rachel’s was her brother and Josh’s was his sister.
The "lovely" garden ceremony was quick. Then we took family and wedding party formals. Then we were able to get out on the beach for a bit. We were done by 2pm, rested, then met up for drinks around 9pm. It was just a "lovely" wedding!
