So it’s been a while since I’ve shot a destination wedding due to having a couple of rugrats. I packed light with a carry-on and a shoulder bag for my gear. I had a quick layover in Miami and then I set foot onto Barbados for the first time. The majority of the wedding party was staying at the Divi Southwinds Resort and so did I. I was greeted with a nice welcome bag during my check-in at the resort. The first item on the weekend’s itinerary was a fish fry at the local fish market called Oistins. You can get the day’s catch grilled or fried. I got a whole red snapper grilled with rice and peas and plantains.
The next day we started with a brunch at the Surfer’s Cafe – a beach front open-air restaurant. It was followed by a rehearsal at the Bellevue Plantation Estate just before we ended the day with a sunset catamaran private dinner cruise with Jammin’ Catamaran Cruises. This was truly one of the best experiences I’ve had shooting destination weddings. The sails went up and we cruised around the island and they set anchor at sunset for jet skiing, swimming in the warm Caribbean water, dinner and refilling on jammin’ punch. All the guests shared the same sentiment at the end which was “this was a really nice treat”.
And finally the wedding day on Sunday at Bellevue Plantation Estate. The ceremony was held on the gardens of the estate followed by a poolside cocktail hour while we took family and formal portraits. And the peacock-themed tented reception with a pop of purple, blue an pink colors was a wonderful ending to a wonderful destination wedding weekend.
It was wonderful working with local Barbadian wedding vendors including Tanya of Weddings by Malissa and Bianca of I Do Video Art. We look forward to shooting or visiting Barbados again. A huge thank you and congratulations to Jessica and Marvin.
